Zoë Wise

Zoë Wise (Muscogee (Creek) Nation) is a rising 3L earning her certificate in Indigenous Peoples Law & Policy. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Zoë developed a strong interest in environmental justice and an acute awareness of the need to preserve natural resources. Her experiences in Alaska as an adult encouraged her to pursue environmental law, particularly after witnessing the direct impacts of climate change. Zoë aims to return to Alaska after law school to work at the intersection of federal Indian law and environmental law. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where she served as the design editor for the literary journal Permafrost, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Western Washington University. Zoë joined AJELP’s executive board to draw on her experiences and contribute to the legal academic discourse on issues she deeply cares about. As Editor-in-Chief, she is dedicated to publishing scholarship on Indigenous Peoples Law. In her free time, Zoë enjoys hiking, engaging in subsistence activities, and relaxing in her hammock with a good book.

Nicholas Moshkriz

Nick is a 3rd year law student from Tucson, Arizona. He went to the University of Arizona before law school where he studied economics. Nick hopes to become a prosecutor in Pima County after finishing law school and taking the Bar. Nick joined AJELP because he is passionate about protecting the environment, specifically with advocating for clean water. For his substantial note with AJELP, Nick wrote about the PFAS settlement with 3M and its potential consequences when finalized. He is excited to be a part of the executive board to help AJELP continue publishing and promoting thoughtful and informative scholarship. Furthermore, he hopes to encourage law students, undergraduates, and the public in general to learn about AJELP and ways to address the environmental issues we face together.

Joshua (Josh) Roubik

Josh has a degree in Environmental Engineering from Northern Arizona University. Before law school, Josh managed a household hazardous waste facility in Flagstaff, AZ. While in law school, he has interned at the Department of Justice's Environmental Enforcement Section, the Natural Resources Defense Council, for the Hon. Raner C. Collins of the United States District Court of Arizona, and for the Hon. Sean Brearcliffe of the Arizona Court of Appeals Div. II. He wrote his note on Congress's ability to circumvent the major questions doctrine. His hobbies are hiking and snowboarding. His dream job (besides being an attorney, obviously) would be a nature photographer.

Jonathan Michael

Jonathan has lived in Tucson, Arizona since 2022. Like all cattle that stray from Texas pastures, he is forever branded by his time there.

He studies law at the University of Arizona, dividing his time between prosecutable crimes (criminal defense) and non-prosecutable crimes (private property ownership). Jonathan is a member of the reformed hobo faith, and thus believes in the unmeasurable value of kindness and good work.

Haley Todd Newsome

Haley is a student, friend, wife, dog mom, and aspiring gardener from Atlanta, GA. She received her bachelor’s in Social Work from Auburn University and is pursuing a career in public interest environmental law or immigration law. She loves how AJELP publishes scholarship from such a diverse range of perspectives and disciplines. She’s excited to be on the executive board this year to continue this work with such a wonderful group of humans! Outside of law school, she enjoys crafting, hiking, and exploring the beautiful desert of southern Arizona.

Jared Gunn

Jared is a 3L student interested in public interest law and litigation. He was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico and received his bachelors degree at the University of New Mexico where he was a part of the Sustainability Studies Program. Jared’s first aspirations of attending law school began as he became more aware of environmental issues and a changing climate early in his collegiate studies. AJELP aligned clearly within his values and has bee one of his favorite experiences in law school. As a part of AJELP’s executive board, Jared hopes to help the journal continue flourishing and making an impact towards a more sustainable future.
